A passport of a citizen of Georgia is a document verifying the identity and citizenship of a citizen of Georgia on the territory of Georgia and abroad. The passport is the property of Georgia and is issued to any citizen of Georgia of any age for leaving Georgia, replacement abroad and entrance into Georgia. The liability for storage and use of the passport according to its intended purpose is assigned to its legal holder. An adult and capable citizen of Georgia or a representative of a minor is authorized to appeal for issue of a passport. One and the same person is authorized to have several valid passports. If a passport has been already issued to a person, a new passport is issued simultaneously on the basis of a written application of the latter. Term of validity of a passport of a citizen of Georgia is defined to be 10 years since the date of issue and the term of validity of a passport issued to minors is defined to be three years.
To take (replace) a passport of a citizen of Georgia in the territory of Georgia, a person personally or through another person appeals to any territorial office of the Civil Registry Agency and abroad the country to a territorial office of the Civil Registry Agency, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, diplomatic or consular missions of Georgia legalizes, issues (replaces) and prolongs the term of validity of the passport of a citizen of Georgia. A territorial office of the Civil Registry Agency issues a passport to the interested person within 10 working days since submission of all the necessary documents and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, diplomatic or consular missions of Georgia does within one month. When issuing the passport attendance is obligatory only to sign the passport personally.
The person, whose Citizenship of Georgia has been terminated in compliance to the Georgian legislation, is liable to submit the passport to the respective territorial office, Georgian diplomatic missions and consular services abroad.
The passport, in which unauthorized corrections are made or forgery, crippling, etc. is discovered, should be withdrawn from the holder.
The persons, who make unauthorized corrections in the passport, forge the passport or otherwise infringe the norms, envisaged in the legislation, are amenable in compliance to the Georgian legislation.
To take or replace a passport of a citizen of Georgia:
- Application form (issued in the territorial office);
- Identification card (original and copy);
- Two color bio-photo (printed and CD version);
- Receipt of payment a state duty for 32-page passport - 35 GEL (see privileges);
- Receipt of payment a state duty for 48-page passport - 40 GEL (see privileges);
- In case of replacement of the passport - old passport
Note:
A citizen of Georgia being abroad, who has been issued a passport of a citizen of Georgia or identification card and on which there is a respective application form, is authorized to appeal to the territorial office, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, diplomatic missions or consular services of Georgia through a representative to take a passport. Representation should be verified according to the regulation established in the current Georgian legislation.
To take a passport of a citizen of Georgia for children aged from 16 to 18, please, submit:
- Application form (issued in the territorial office);
- Birth certificate (original and a copy);
- Identification card (original and a copy);
- Notarized agreement of one of the parents on taking passport (original); (minor persons, from 16 to 18 years old, if he/she is in registered marriage, do not need an agreement of a legal representative);
- Two color biometric photos (printed and CD version);
- Receipt of payment of the state duty for 32-page passport - 17.50 GEL;
- Receipt of payment of the state duty for 48-page passport - 20.00 GEL;
To take a passport for a child aged under 16, please, submit:
- Application form (issued in the territorial office);
- Birth certificate (original and copy);
- Identification (temporary residence) card (original and copy), if the person has attained the age of 14 before issue of the passport;
- Notarized agreement of both parents on taking a passport (original);
- Identification card of one of the parents (original and a copy);
- Receipt of payment of the state duty: 32-page passport - 17.50 GEL; for 48-page passport - 20.00 GEL.
- Two biometric photos (printed and CD version)
A passport of a citizen of Georgia is subjected to replacement:
- Changing the name and surname;
- Discovery of an error in the record;
- Use of all pages intended for visas and prolongation of the passport;
- Worthlessness for use (deterioration, damage).
Note:
- Replacing the passport as a result of change of name or surname and in case of discovery of errors in records, an application verifying these circumstances should additionally be enclosed with the documents (certificate on change of name or surname, birth certificate, marriage certificate, etc.);
- Since the day of issue of a new passport the lost passport is considered to be invalid.
Terms of passport issue and cost of service:
- Issue of the passport on the 10th working day since submission of the application is free of charge.
- The cost of issue of a 32-page or 48-page passport within 5 working days after submission of the application makes 25 GEL;
- The cost of issue of a 32-page or 48-page passport within 3 working days after submission of the application makes 55 GEL;
- The cost of issue of a 32-page or 48-page passport in 24 hours after submission of the application makes 125 GEL;
- The cost of issue of a 32-page or 48-page passport the day of submission of the application makes 170 GEL.
Note:
The cost of service can be paid in any bank.
The following persons are exempted from payment of the state duty:
- Participants of the II World War;
- Citizens of Georgia invalid as a result of fighting for territorial integrity, freedom and independence of Georgia;
- Citizen of a foreign country, who has been granted Citizenship of Georgia according to a decree of the President of Georgia;
- Veterans of war and armed forces - 50 percents;
- Internally displaced persons (refugees) - 50 percents;
- Invalids of the I and II group - 50 percents;
- Persons younger than 18 years old - 50 percents.
