What does the Biometric passport mean? - Biometric passport is the European standard identification card, which has the electronic memory card with the picture and fingerprint of the owner.

Three Biometric passport printing centers are working Georgia wide (Tbilisi, Kutaisi and Batumi). Procedures for receiving world’s highest standard passport are simplified in Civil Registry Agency of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia.

Why do we need the Biometric Passport? - Issuance of biometric passports in Georgia on first stage will give us the opportunity to simplify visa regime with the European Union countries.

Movement on biometric passport system Georgian is given opportunity to become equal member of European family, because this will support the rising of trust to documents issued by the Georgia. Biometric passport is the highest technology travel document in the world.

Specifics and needs for biometric passports are ascertained by the International Civil Aviation Organization ICAO. Above mentioned organization is determining, what are the minimal security mechanisms necessary for International Scale Document to have in it.

What is the validity of Biometric Passport and how much does it coast? - Validity period of Biometric Passport is ten years and it will cost 100 Georgian Lari (GEL).

Is it possible to receive passport in shorter period? - Civil Registry Agency is offering to interested persons faster services too. To obtain Biometric Passport in ten working days will cost 100 GEL, on a fifth working day – 120, on the third working day – 150, in 24 hours – 190 and the same day 205 GEL.

Together with the Biometric Passports, already existing passports are also valid.

Children under the age of 16 can also obtain the passport and cost for it would be 50 Georgian Lari.

Besides this for the children passports (non biometric) are issued for three years and cost for it is 17 Georgian Lari and 50 Georgian Tetri.
